How to Get Your Mind Right: How to Focus on What Matters

I always enjoy a good message and find inspiration in anything. Yesterday's church message was something simple... Breakfast Matters. I know we all know this but there was a different spin on it. A spin I loved. I'll be honest I'm not a big breakfast person but there's a certain stillness you should feel when you first wake up. The world hasn't commanded your attention, the world has made you feel less than. The gist was that stillness matters. In that stillness, you hear nothing, but you see the beauty in everything, a new morning, the sun rising, the birds flying around.

Quick Tip: I leave my phone downstairs every night. I used to be controlled by my phone and now not so much. I do keep my watch on in case of an emergency but letting my phone wake me and run me. I no longer do that.

The world can be a crazy, hectic place as it is, but when running a business it's doubled. There is always so much going on that it can be hard to keep your head above water. If you find yourself constantly stressed, worried, or anxious about the future and unable to focus on things that matter most in life - such as friends and family - then you need to take some time for yourself. Taking time for yourself may not seem like it will help at first glance, but trust us: It will make a world of difference. We all have different ways of getting our minds right, of focusing on what matters, and of coming back to the center. Some like to meditate; others exercise regularly; and still, others listen to specific music that helps them achieve their desired state of mind. The important thing is finding what works for you personally and implementing it into your routine as often as possible.

You may not be ready to utilize DND after 9 PM, or leave your phone downstairs or away from the bed every night. But you may be ready to journal, you may be ready to not touch your phone for the first 15 minutes of each morning. So let's get into a few things.

What is Mindfulness?

Mindfulness is more than just focusing on what matters; it is an entire lifestyle change. A person who is living in the moment is focused on their present experience and surroundings. They are not thinking about the past, what could go wrong in the future, or the stresses of daily life. Instead, they are experiencing each moment as if it was their last. Mindfulness can also be referred to as being in the flow state. When you are in the flow state, you are completely immersed in the activity you are doing. You are not distracted by other things and are able to fully focus on whatever it is that you are doing at that moment.

Start an Exercise Routine

Exercising is a great way to get your mind right. It allows you to clear your head and focus on nothing other than your breathing and the movement of your body. While many people think of exercise as a way to burn off negative energy, it can actually be used as a way to build yourself up and focus on what matters most to you. Whenever we feel stressed or anxious, our muscles clench. You can help prevent this by doing some form of exercise before you tackle your day-to-day activities. By loosening up the muscles in your body, you can prevent yourself from getting overwhelmed and frustrated with everything going on around you. If you already have an exercise routine, good for you! If not, now is a great time to start. Even five minutes of exercise a day can help you feel better about yourself and your ability to focus on what matters.

We all have moments where we feel a bit overwhelmed. Whether it is due to stress, anxiety, or just the day-to-day activities of life, there are times when we have too many things going on in our heads. Whenever this happens, we recommend meditating. Meditation is a great way to help clear your mind and focus on what matters most to you. There are many different types of meditation to choose from and all you need is a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. There are a lot of free resources available online to help you get started with meditation. You might even find it helpful to try guided meditation with someone who has experience meditating. By listening to someone who knows what they are doing, you can get even more out of the experience.

Write in a Journal

There are a lot of things you can do to get your mind right and focus on what matters most to you, but few are as simple as writing in a journal. All you need is a pen and a piece of paper and you are good to go. There are no right or wrong things to write in a journal. You can write out your thoughts, reflect on your day, or even write a letter to someone or something. Whatever you choose to write about is entirely up to you. Just remember that whatever you put down in that journal is for your eyes only. You can get as detailed or as vague as you want with whatever you write.

Here's one I created for you and it's FREE!

Take care of Yourself

Feeling unwell or stressed out is a natural reaction to the world we live in. We are constantly exposed to germs and viruses, especially during the winter months. The best way to combat these seasonal illnesses is to take care of yourself every day. The easiest way to do this is to get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and eat a healthy diet that is tailored to your body. Getting the proper amount of sleep each night can make a world of difference. Not only does it help you feel relaxed, but it also makes it easier for your mind and body to focus on what matters most to you. Exercise can also help you sleep better at night.

With the world being topsy turvy find time to focus on what matters. It's you, you matter.
