Do you know your numbers?

The leap is upon you and I can feel it. I felt it once and the thing I want to recommend is knowing your numbers.

In 2017 I started my author journey and I was still working. I'd be in between calls working on my books and then back to "Thank you for calling Toyota." Trust I had an attitude each time I got a call lol. I knew in my heart of hearts what I was doing was a gift and having to pick between them was working my nerves and stunting my creativity. Ever felt that?

Well in 2018 I did my best to create a plan to make my exit into full-time authorship. I had a few ideas and things I'd have to sacrifice but I also knew it would be more than worth it. My plan was to leave in January of 2019 and guess what that didn't happen.

November 2018 I made my exit with little to no plan or any real idea of my numbers. Just VIBES! And I want to say this loudly... 1 star I do not recommend 🤣.

When I say you should know your numbers I specifically mean your survive and thrive numbers. The exit you will be making will be a little smoother for you with a plan that includes the thing we fear sometimes... MONEY.

A lot of us are still at our places of work because we need the money. That's just the truth of the matter. We need money and more importantly, we need security. And I feel you.

Here's what I need you to do:

  1. Document your expenses. For expenses focus on the things that you have to pay and that are not discretionary. For example, any savings you choose to put to the side are considered discretionary and do not belong here. Spa appointments, hair salon trips are also considered discretionary as an example.

  2. Document your dream life goals and those numbers. Ex. want to make a home addition?

  3. Steal this cheat sheet... It will calculate your numbers for you as you add them. It's so important for you to know your numbers before you leave your 9-5.

Your Survive Number is the number you need to bring in monthly to survive also known as to feel comfortable. I want you to sit with this number for a minute. When I did this practice I honestly thought I needed an astronomical number in order to live my life. And the truth was I didn't. I looked at all I'd documented and seen some things I could live without. Somethings I could get rid of or consolidate. It was important for me to think on a bigger scale so I could zoom in and zero out.

Your thrive numbers are just that. The number that will have you thriving, hitting those goals, taking those vacations, hiring that team and etc.

With this cheat sheet, you will be able to add the values and the sheet will calculate for you.

Now, why do I need to do this?

  1. Knowing your numbers will help you save accordingly.

  2. It will help you see everything in a bigger view so you can then zoom in.

  3. It will also help you think about your offer and pricing. If you know you need a minimum of $3000 for the month you can think about your pricing, products, or how many clients you will need to get that monthly.

This is the groundwork. Business is a lot of you and a lot of numbers. Make the numbers work for you but in order to do that, you must know the numbers. I honestly loved this practice. It allowed me to set some goals and prioritize them. I felt so comfortable after I did and I was also grateful. When I quit I had so many moments of HOLY S, what did I do? In my head, I was barely making it but that just wasn't true. I wanted things to work more than I wanted to complain about missing a nail appointment once a month. Instead, this made me grateful that I was able, I was abundant, It completely shifted my mindset.

Get those numbers down!!!
